BIO

Pepe was born and raised in Mexico City where he studied philosophy and media communications before attending NYU for a Masters Degree in filmmaking. Since then, he has approached filmmaking professionally as a director, writer and cinematographer on projects from commercials to film and television. As a director, Pepe has worked on music videos, branded films and commercials for clients like Pepsi, Armani, Cinemex and GNP and his short films have been screened in festivals around the world. His first film Breve cuento sobre la aparición espontánea de un árbol imaginario 2007 was awarded best short film at UNIFEST, Madrid 2008 and first prize at the International Film Festival Against Violence by AVON 2008. His shortfilm Batallas latentes opened the Mexican short film section at Morelia Film Festival 2014. Pepe’s spot ELLA for Armani received the AICP award in 2015 and is now part of the permanent collection at the of the Film Department at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. Meanwhile, his role as cinematographer has made him responsible for setting and establishing the looks of TV-shows like Ozark (Netflix), The Deuce (HBO) and Impulse (Youtube RED) among others, while collaborating with directors like Dough Liman, Jason Bateman, Dee Rees, Michelle MacClaren, Residente and more. The feature film The Kindergarten Teacher, which del Pino DP’d, earned it’s director, Sara Colangelo, the jury award at the Sundance film festival in 2018. Other credits as a cinematographer include episodes for Electric Dreams (Amazon), Mrs America (FX) and Chambers (Netflix) and the feature film Worth with Micheal Keaton and Stanley Tucci. He recently finished shooting House of The Dragon, the HBO show that works as a prequel for Game of Thrones and he is currently developing his first feature film as director to be shot in Mexico.
