House of the Dragon

TV Series: Season 1, Episodes 2,3 & 10

Director: Greg Yaitanes
HBO

Smoke, blood, dragons, and lots of fire. Greg and I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate on these three episodes, diving headfirst into their creative and technical challenges. In episode 3, we crafted the nighttime assault on the Crabfeeder’s forces by Daemon and his dragon, lit only by fire; in episode 2, we staged the tense standoff on Dragonstone’s bridge, bathed in a haunting, foggy sunset and shot on the 270-degree LED-screen stage known as the Volume; and for the finale, we brought to life the storm-chased aerial pursuit between the young riders and their dragons — ending with the brutal, mid-air chomping of poor Lucerys. The final shot of the season leaves us with Rhaenyra. In her eyes: grief, fury, and the quiet, undeniable beginning of war.

Pink sunsets, bridges at dusk, altars packed with burning candles — Pepe and the team pushed the visual style of a known world, explored its limits, and leaned into a nuanced, precise rhythm to serve the energy of this powerful story.
